순례자가 아이펠에서 자주 마주치는 작은 성스러운 기념물들, 십자가에 못 박힌 그리스도의 형상이 있든 없든 십자가든, 지나가는 사람들을 짧은 영적 휴식으로 초대합니다. 어쩌면 그중 하나 또는 다른 하나는 짧은 기도로 이곳에서 신을 만날 수 있을 것입니다. 2001년 카미노 프랑세스를 순례했던 하페 케르켈링은 이러한 작은 성스러운 기념물 너머의 신과의 만남이라는 완전히 다른 신비로운 경험의 전제 조건으로 다음과 같이 썼습니다. "나는 여기서 하루하루 더 자유로워지고 있습니다 (...) 모든 감정 주파수를 통해 나는 천천히 하나의 주파수에 맞춰졌고 훌륭한 수신을 받았습니다. 완전하고 차분한 공허함은 진공 상태를 만드는 상태이며, 신은 그 후 편안하게 완전히 채울 수 있습니다." (하페 케르켈링, "Ich bin dann mal weg")

Anyone who takes a close look at the small religious monument found here will inevitably notice a skull affixed to the base. In our modern perception – shaped by adventure films and television – this symbol is primarily known as a flag on pirate ships. Brother Franziskus Joest explains the Christian background of this symbol in "The Time Is Fulfilled – The Gospel of Mark as a Year's Companion" as follows: "It is the head of Adam. According to an old legend, Golgotha [the site of Jesus' crucifixion] was the hill under which Adam had been buried since time immemorial. This is, of course, in no way historically verifiable, but it nevertheless contains a profound truth. For through the death of Jesus, humanity is redeemed, the curse of Adam and the separation from God are lifted, and sin, death, and the devil are defeated. In pictorial representations [often seen on icons of the Eastern Church depicting the crucifixion of Jesus], the blood flowing from the cross touches Adam's skull, thus indicating that he, too, shares in redemption, indeed, that all humanity, which has fallen in him, is raised up again through the cross."
