This section of the route leads through a diverse landscape characterized by dense forests, sparse tree-lined avenues, and expansive meadows. The lift bridge was built in 1916 to replace a wooden drawbridge. In 1945, the bridge was saved from being blown up.[1] In 1991/92, it was repaired and in 2020/21, a basic overhaul was carried out, including the installation of new drive technology.[2] A remote control was also implemented, taking into account the monument protection. Until this renovation, the lock keeper, who operates the lock at the "Hühnerleiter" a few hundred meters downstream on the Elde, had to ride his bike to the bridge in order to control the bridge directly from the wooden house. The swing bridge is located directly at the city harbor in the old town and is opened every hour on the hour to allow ships on the Müritz-Elde waterway to pass into Lake Malchow.
