The current bridge was opened in 2013, after which a 2012 report recommended an urgent renovation. The bridge was completed in a year and has been in service since 2013.

At the full hour it opens and lets the boat traffic through this bottleneck. To observe this is indeed a spectacle.

The swing bridge is located directly at the city harbor in the old town and is opened every hour on the hour to allow ships on the Müritz-Elde waterway to pass into Lake Malchow. The path between Malchower peninsula and monastery side is passable on both sides. There are some nice seating areas from which you have a wide view of the Fleesensee, the monastery and the peninsula.

The ships sail between Waren and Malchow. Very suitable as a tour extension.
Some time to rest with snacks and drinks.
The ships take bicycles with them! Approx. 30 to 40 fit on a steamer.

In order to get from Malchower See into the canal to Plauer See, the swing bridge has to be moved to the side. There is no difference in height to be overcome here, as is the case with locks. There is only a road in the shape of a bridge in the way. And this is simply turned to the side.
