Although three gatehouses narrow the access roads, they are not towering, defensive towers. Königsberg in Bavaria is a worthwhile destination for those who want to see beautifully preserved half-timbered houses. The Königsberg Roland is considered the southernmost Roland statue in Germany. Roland statues were considered symbols of civil liberties, usually associated with corresponding rights such as market rights or their own jurisdiction.

A place with many possibilities, it's best to first drive up to the Schwedenschanze and stop there on the weekend. The route downhill to Rottenstein is easy to cycle to, and you'll reach the village in no time. From there, you have a beautiful view of the foothills of the Hassberge Mountains.
