Goldbergsee, a 145-hectare reservoir, was originally created as a flood control basin. Today, it is one of the most popular recreational areas in Coburg. The lake was created at the end of 2010. Since then, it has become a popular destination for day trips. The idyllic surroundings offer beautiful views of the majestic Callenberg Castle, which overlooks the lake, and the Glender Wiesen bird sanctuary.

The Baroque palace was built in several phases at the end of the 17th and 18th centuries (1694-1786) as a summer residence for the abbots of Langheim. During the first phase, the Langheim abbot Gallus Knauer had the eastern wing built between 1694 and 1698, based on plans attributed to Johann Leonard Dietzenhofer. The later sections of the west wing and western central wing were originally constructed as four-story outbuildings. The four floors reached a total height equal to the three living floors of the first building section. However, by the end of the 18th century, there was already a desire to make the palace-like three-wing complex more prestigious. Three gates, connected by a city wall that is still intact today, enclose the old town of Seßlach. The complete city wall has a total length of 780 meters. The gates served as a prison or gatekeeper or bridge house. For more than 20 years, two of the three city gates have been closed on weekends and traffic has been banned from the city. Only residents receive a pass and a parking permit. This allows guests to stroll relaxed through the picturesque old town. Thieves and robbers are said to have once stayed in these rock cellars. The Bamberg Book of Records records that a gang of thieves hid three stolen horses here in the 15th century. ... in old writings we read: "Large rocks conceal caves that inspire horror with their musty smell and darkness." The path around the Goldbergsee can be enjoyed at any time of year. Many water birds can be observed, part of the path leads through the forest, the rest along the lake. If you prefer peace and quiet, you should come during the week, as it can get crowded at the weekend.

However, with secularization, the Langheim monastery office and the Tambach Castle monastery office were dissolved. Tambach Castle fell to the Bavarian royal house in 1803 and to the House of Ortenburg in 1806 in exchange for the County of Ortenburg in Lower Bavaria. Tambach Castle only acquired its current appearance at the beginning of the 20th century. The original fountains by the Bamberg sculptor Michael Trautmann (1742-1809) were removed when the Protestant Counts of Ortenburg moved in and distributed to the communities of Neuendorf and Hergramsdorf. The current fountain in the castle courtyard was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The private castle church in the castle is open to the public and can be accessed from the castle courtyard. The church can be booked for weddings and baptisms.
