Goldbergsee, a 145-hectare reservoir, was originally created as a flood retention basin. Today, it is one of the most visited recreational areas in Coburg.
The lake was dammed at the end of 2010. Since then, it has developed into a popular tourist destination. The idyllic setting offers beautiful views of the majestic Callenberg Castle, which towers over the lake, and the "Glender Wiesen Bird Sanctuary" nature reserve.
