Arnstein lies on the Wern River, which bisects the Main Triangle, approximately 20 kilometers from Schweinfurt and 25 kilometers from Würzburg. The southern parts of the municipality lie within the Gramschatz Forest. Arnstein enjoys a very central geographical location. The town is 9 kilometers west of the Schweinfurt/Werneck motorway junction (via the B 26a). According to the Bavarian Surveying Authority, the geographical center of Lower Franconia lies in the Arnstein district of Büchold. The Baroque three-winged complex was built between 1731 and 1747 on the orders of Friedrich Karl von Schönborn, based on a design by Balthasar Neumann. The weir was dilapidated and was replaced by a wooden footbridge in 2024. Illustration and explanation on a board that belongs to the hiking trail into the Werntal but is still visible.
