The Triberg Waterfalls are one of the most beautiful sights in the Black Forest and Baden-Württemberg. The water streams, which run over seven cascades, are considered the highest waterfalls in Germany with a total height of 163 meters. This is why they are also a popular destination for a vacation with children. We visited the Triberg waterfalls on a summer evening. And - to our surprise - we got there without paying an entrance fee. In this article, we reveal why this was the case and what you should know about opening times, entrance fees, parking and hiking options. First of all, you should keep in mind that the Triberg waterfalls are very well known and well visited. Around 27,100 people search for them every month on Google alone (as of May 2023). Therefore, it is often full during the day. This is especially true when the weather is nice, on weekends, public holidays and school holidays. Since we don't think you can really enjoy the beauty of the waterfalls in the middle of crowds, we recommend visiting outside of peak times. Before 9:00 a.m. or in the evening from around 7:00 p.m. you will find the waterfalls pleasantly empty. Another plus point for visiting in the morning or evening: you save money. The ticket booths are closed early in the morning and in the evening. This means you can get to the Triberg Waterfalls outside of the typical visiting hours without paying an entrance fee. And the parking is free too! The Scheffelplatz parking lot (Google Maps) at the middle entrance, for example, is only chargeable between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. https://www.unaufschiebbar.de/reiseziele/europa/deutschland/triberger-wasserfaelle-schwarzwald/

The Black Forest is known for its abundance of waterfalls. The reason for this lies in the large differences in altitude over a short distance, which applies in particular to the topographical situation in the Simonswald valley. In the 300-700 meter sloping western side of the valley, the strong Ice Age glaciations have created cirque walls. The neighboring streams Hirschbach and Zweribach, coming from gently undulating hanging valleys, plunge down into the largest of these cirques, more than 300 meters deep, with several waterfalls, of which only the Zweribach waterfalls are known nationwide. The cirque is protected as a protective forest and as a Zweribach nature reserve.

Impressive falls, especially after a lot of rain, of course. When it is wet, however, be careful when stepping on roots or stones: Danger of slipping!

It now costs EUR 7.50 per person and is totally overcrowded on weekends. The museums advertised in the admission price were closed during our visit, but were kept secret when the ticket was purchased. You are not out and about here alone. The waterfalls are beautiful - but hiking is better elsewhere. Paths are mostly paved.

Great, natural forest. Here are mighty beeches that are definitely worth seeing. There is the Zweribach waterfall which gives this forest a special touch. In addition, the forest is recommended for hiking on extremely sunny and hot days, as you can walk here almost exclusively in the shade.

Great natural spectacle in the Bannwald. The way there is an adventure as it is very stony and sometimes very narrow. If you are absolutely sure-footed, you should visit both waterfalls.

The path is marked as "difficult" everywhere. Of course, the path cannot be seen as a walk, but it is definitely doable with surefootedness and a little caution. I would definitely recommend visiting the Zweribach waterfall first and using the descent described here as an ascent.

Sturdy shoes are a must here. Due to the width and the unpaved stones, the path is definitely a feasible challenge. Particular caution is required here in snow and rain.

This waterfall should not be missed if you look at the Zweribach waterfalls. Beware of the path, you should be sure-footed.

The harbinger of the Zweribach. A small wooden bridge leads over the stream 🦊

Small, narrow, unpaved, and steep natural path. Depending on the weather, it can be slippery. But the scenery is very beautiful.

It's especially fun here because you have to step from one larger stone to the next.

Beautiful waterfalls, the surrounding protected forest looks like a primeval forest. In summer the waterfalls can be very crowded. The area around the waterfalls also offers countless other highlights
