8월 21, 2023, Die Our
The Our (German, Luxembourgish and French Our) is a 96.1 km long tributary of the Sauer along the border between Germany (D) and its western neighbours Belgium (B) and Luxembourg (L). It flows mainly from north to south and meanders in sections. The Our rises in the eastern Ardennes and the western Eifel on Belgian territory. Its source is in the municipality of Büllingen near the district of Losheimergraben. The Our initially flows a little southwest of the B 265, which runs close to the river directly along the German-Belgian border. It passes two districts of Büllingen, Hüllscheid and Berterath. Shortly afterwards it flows into Germany for a while near Verschneid, a hamlet in Auwer in Rhineland-Palatinate. Shortly afterwards the Our flows back into Belgium near Schönberg, Atzerath and Alfersteg. From about Weppeler to Auel it runs along the Belgian-German border and then back into Belgium near Weweler. Then the Our flows again along the state border between Stoubach (B) and Stupach (D) and past Welchenhausen (D) and Oberhausen (B). It then flows through Belgium for the last time near Peterskirchen-Ouren. From around the European Monument at the border triangle of Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg between Ouren (B), Sevenig (D) and Lieler (L), the Our flows almost entirely along the German-Luxembourg border. It flows into the Sauer, a tributary of the Moselle, coming from the west near Wallendorf (D). (Source: Wikipedia)

The monument owes its existence to the President of the Association of the Eifel and Ardennes, Georg Wagner, who suggested its construction as a member of parliament and President of the Chamber in Luxembourg. The memorial consists of four stones bearing the names of the »pioneers for a united Europe« (Konrad Adenauer, Joseph Bech, Paul-Henri Spaak and Robert Schuman). The memorial stones come from the respective countries of origin of the named founding fathers. Gneiss boulder from the Lüneburg Heath for Adenauer, a sandstone block from the Müllerthal-Waldbillig for Bech, blue slate from the High Fens for Spaak and a slate block from the Vosges for Schuman. The fifth stone represents the Treaties of Rome and the signatories from the six countries involved. Near the European Monument and directly at the actual three-country point, a pedestrian bridge connecting Germany and Belgium leads over the Our, which was named after Georg Wagner. The Our has its source in the High Fens in Belgium at an altitude of 643 m near Manderfeld. It flows south and first forms the border between Belgium and Germany, later that between Germany and Luxembourg. The Our crosses the small medieval town of Vianden and, after 98 kilometers, flows into the Sauer near Wallendorf. Source: https://www.rivieresetfleuves.eu/de/l-our/

8월 6, 2022, Reuland Castle Ruins
The castle of Reuland (built in the 12th century) was a huge structure until the 18th century. Today's ruin complex still has a size of 55 m by 65 m. In addition to the actual fortified castle, it also had a castle ring and a moat with a protective wall on two sides. Until the beginning of the 14th century it served as the seat of the noble family of Reuland. Source: https://www.ostbelgien.eu/de/fiche/castle/burg-reuland The castle, built by the Franks as a royal castle on the remains of a Roman fort, was destroyed and rebuilt several times in its checkered history. Since 1920, Reuland Castle has belonged to the Belgian state. Source: https://www.eifel.de/go/sehenswertes-detail/burg_reuland.html

Well-preserved, well-kept castle ruins for free viewing, in the complex there is a nice kiosk with nice outdoor seating. It is one of the largest castle ruins in the Eifel, where today only the castle ruins stand, the Romans had already built a permanent fort. The oldest discovered foundations of the ruins date back to the 12th century. Definitely plan time, worth seeing.

3월 26, 2022, Pronsfeld Railway Museum
In the last century Pronsfeld was once an important railway junction in the Eifel. However, the time of the railways has been in the past for more than forty years. Low-gradient cycle paths have now been laid out on the old railway lines.

A museum locomotive that can be seen from afar shows the way to the small railway museum on the cycle path in Pronsfeld. Where the West Eifel Railway once ran, cyclists now romp about on the old railway line from Prüm to St. Vith in Belgium. The railway museum uses photos and documents to show the history of the railway in Pronsfeld since 1886. In addition to the small locomotive Köf II with flat wagons and a 3rd class passenger carriage from 1940, there are level barriers, pieces of track, semaphore signals and many other historical railway devices on display.
