Bourscheid Castle is not only the largest building of its kind in the country, but also one of the most important castles between the Rhine and Meuse. It was built in four phases and completed in 1430 with the construction of the large complex with the many turrets. The lords of Bourscheid, who then lived in the castle, were among the most influential knightly families in the region. Not only were they loyal lieutenants to the Duke of Luxembourg, they also acted as his advisors, fighting at his side in armed skirmishes. The Bourscheider was replaced by the von Metternich family in 1626, before the French Revolution put an end to feudal rule
