It's a bit far from here to the sailing ship, but whatever ;). I suggest going to the ferry port, buying a ticket (it's a small cost, but the route isn't long either 😂) and admiring this wonder that is the PASSAT up close.

Unfortunately, there's no real alternative to the bike path along the road on this section, but that doesn't exactly make it a mountain bike highlight. The views over Lake Dassow at least make up for the technically boring asphalt. But since the bike path is in really good condition, you can get this section over with quickly and move on to more suitable trails.

You can visit it

A beautifully constructed bridge on the former railway embankment between Dassow and Schönberg. From here, you have a magnificent view of the Stepenitz and Maurine lowlands with their reed and moor landscape.

Travemünde is a casual holiday resort on the Baltic Sea and a port for Scandinavian ferries. Fish restaurants line the banks of the Trave and Travemünde's beach promenade overlooking the Bay of Lübeck. Fish sandwiches are sold at stalls in the fishing port. The old lighthouse from 1539, a brick building, is now a maritime museum. The historic four-masted barque Passat can be visited as part of a guided tour.

The day is still young, there is a light breeze blowing from the north-east. The best time for a trip from Travemünde to Niendorf-Hafen, along the Brodtener Steilufer via Hermannshöhe. A panoramic view of the Bay of Lübeck is guaranteed.

During the GDR era, we used the Lübeck-Schlutup border crossing to Selmsdorf many times to visit our relatives who lived along the Baltic coast. I remember the oppressive atmosphere and the pounding heart when you drove down this road and were about to be checked by the GDR border guards. The fact that you can ride a bike here today in the sunshine is a great blessing.
