The "longest bench in the world" has been on the banks of the Kiel Canal near Rendsburg for 25 years and is marketed as the region's advertising icon. Until research revealed that there were longer benches. And that's why the Rendsburg went into extra time. It was built in 1989, the bank on the canal bank. 501.53 m long and made of 282 prefabricated reinforced concrete parts and wooden planks for a total of 1,594 squatters. And by 2007 she was the undisputed world record holder. But then a 550 m long bench was erected at the Federal Horticultural Show in Ronneburg, Thuringia. And then the Swiss got involved. Their bench, built in 2012 in the Appenzeller Land, was over 1,000 m long. Such a cheese, you might think, because - it was dismantled again in April 2014. Due to legal requirements... And Rendsburg has done it again. The “longest currently built bench” on the “busiest artificial waterway in the world” was lengthened to surpass the 550 m of the Thuringians. On September 19, 2014, the bench was surveyed and inaugurated under the patronage of Mayor Pierre Gilgenast. 575.75 meters long is the result of the manual work, which, like most of the material, was sponsored by the participating companies Thomsen Tiefbau, Heinrich Tepker, master carpenter Böhrnsen and the district craftsmen's association, and was mainly carried out by their apprentices.
