St. Aegidius Church in Oschatz. Information: The city's landmark and the church's origins, dedicated to Saint Aegidius, likely date back to the 11th century (chapel/wooden church). Its two 75-meter-high towers are visible from afar.

The St. Aegidien Church, with its two towers over 75m high, dominates the Oschatz cityscape. A visit to the church and also the tower keeper's apartment in the south tower is highly recommended. In summer it's a bit overgrown with blackberries and nettles. But it's still a nice place. The downhill part is very steep but it's really fun to ride. The uphill part is fun too.

The three flags on the bank of the ferry draw attention to a world-historical moment. The first encounter between the Allies took place on this bank in front of Lorenzkirch on April 25, 1945. You can take the ferry “Nixe” to Lorenzkirch. The other bank of the Elbe can be reached in less than 3 minutes. On the other side of the Elbe near Lorenzkirch, display boards tell of the terrible events shortly before the end of the war. Three days before the Allies arrived, thousands of refugees who wanted to flee across the Elbe at the last minute got caught between the fronts on the meadows. Hundreds of civilians, including women and children, died on land and in the water.
