At the beginning of the 20th century, the current "Old Town Hall" became too small for the city's ever-growing administrative apparatus, and so in 1905 the building was moved to the "new town hall" on what is now Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz. In the years that followed until 1909, the town hall was renovated and refurbished under the direction of the city's building inspector Wilhelm Scharenberg, until the city's history museum moved into the building in 1909. A visit to the interior is definitely worthwhile, as you can see the large historic ballroom and the treasury, as well as the council chamber and the landscape room, which is decorated with paintings from the late Baroque period. ...with the name Markt. The only structures on the square are the entrances to the Leipzig Markt S-Bahn stop located under the square. The southern entrance leads in front of the escalator section from the square level, first over the restored staircase of the former underground exhibition center, clad in Rochlitz porphyry. On the side facing the square, this has a bronze relief by Frank Ruddigkeit (* 1939) on the history of the square. On the north side of the market, the escalators reach the square level, and there is a passenger elevator.
