Götzenbusch near Oelsa. Geological monument. "Climbing prohibited." There are clearly marked paths along the rocks that can be used without climbing. Information: Götzenbüschchen/Götzenbusch is a wooded hill in the Eastern Ore Mountains, situated on an inconspicuous ridge whose highest point is 361.3 meters above sea level. The area consists of Cretaceous sandstone and is a protected natural monument due to its unique geology. 1. Tropical red clays formed by the weathering of grey gneiss. 2. Clays and sandstone originating from Cretaceous sea deposits.

There is a lookout tower on the business premises. But even without a lookout tower you have a beautiful, almost 360° view of the hill.

"The Götzenbüschchen (also: Götzenbusch) is a wooded hill near Oelsa in the Eastern Ore Mountains. The area consists of sandstone from the Cretaceous period and is under state protection as a natural monument because of its special geology." - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6tzenb%C3%BCschchen A fine, small trail leads along the edge of the field. It also offers a beautiful view over the Weisseritz Valley.

"Götzenbüschchen" natural monument Dresden-Elbland 350 m On the ridge between Roter Weisseritz and Oelsabach, a copse is home to a natural monument ("geotope") that has long been known to geologists. Here is a remnant of the sandstone cover from the Cretaceous, which overlays the Ore Mountain gneiss. The special feature of this outcrop is that part of the soil formation at that time was covered by the sedimentation in the Cretaceous period and was therefore preserved. In the Cretaceous period, the climate was tropical, and this is how so-called red earth could develop, which got its red color from bivalent iron oxides. These soils are also widespread in today's tropics. This fossil soil horizon is only exposed on a very small scale, since it is either still covered or has already been removed. On the other hand, the thin-plate, also deeply weathered gneiss with a striking violet-red color is clearly visible.

In the Götzenbüschen near Oelsa, two geologically significant and in their combination rare natural phenomena occur: -Tropical red loams, which were formed by weathering of the gray gneiss and have a high content of clay (kaolinite and illite) and iron (hematite). -Clays and sandstones that have emerged from deposits of the Cretaceous Sea, contain fossils from this period and have preserved the previously formed tropical red loams from erosion. Occurrence only known once in the Andes/ America! Due to its rarity and scientific importance, this area requires strict protection. CLIMBING PROHIBITED! Also for small children!!!

Nice view from the very, very short steep climb to the hill of the Kienberg. At the top there is a (mostly occupied) rest bench from which you can let your gaze wander. Of course, this also works while standing.
