This cycle path always leads along the Elbe, you can see ships and have to go through the sheep gates

as a cyclist it is worth checking the wind direction beforehand, otherwise it is better to drive further inland if there is a headwind :-)

The Danish King Christian IV had the port of the city of Glückstadt built in 1619/20 at the mouth of the Rhins and the Elbe. The port and city were built primarily for strategic reasons. Glückstadt was an important naval base until 1863 in order to secure Denmark's interests in the Elbe and the North Sea.

It's a crossing that takes around 25 minutes. The Elbe ferry has been connecting Schleswig-Holstein with Lower Saxony for 101 years. It commutes around forty times between Glückstadt (Steinburg district) and Wischhafen (Stade district) from early morning to late evening.
