The outer harbor is basically independent of the tide and can be called at any water level and weather.

The inland port can be reached from the outer port through a barrage. Depending on the water level, this is opened two and a half to two hours before high water for about two hours.

Beautiful inland port with historical and current boat types. The row of houses in Danish style parallel to the shore is worth seeing. For cyclists, the youth hostel is located directly on the banks of the inland port. Great starting point to discover the beautiful city. Nice places for a snack, a break or photos can be found everywhere.

The Danish King Christian IV had the port of the city of Glückstadt built in 1619/20 at the mouth of the Rhins and the Elbe. The port and city were built primarily for strategic reasons. Glückstadt was an important naval base until 1863 in order to secure Denmark's interests in the Elbe and the North Sea.
