The church was built from 1618-1623. Start of construction was still before the foundation of the city. The tower collapsed in 1648 in a natural disaster.

An inland port with a magnificent row of historic houses gives Glückstadt a maritime atmosphere. In summer there are many leisure captains. The whole beauty of the city, however, only becomes apparent during a stroll through the adjacent streets to the market square. The stately cobblestone square is the focal point of the site, which was planned on paper in the early 17th century.
