The pretty little reservoir owes its existence to uranium mining, because the Silberbach stream was dammed here to provide water for the uranium mines.

This slate hole in Lößnitz served as an open-cast mine from the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century in which slate was broken and split. After it was closed, this opencast mine was converted into a “natural theater” for a few years. Today the slate hole in OT Dreihansen is filled with water and nature has made it a beautiful feature of Lößnitz in the Ore Mountains. The panoramic view from the dam wall over the forests is simply picturesque. Great place for hikes around the dam.
