Always worth a visit. Simply beautiful

Braunfels is about 15 minutes by car from Wetzlar and is a fascinating little idyll, dominated by half-timbered houses, on a mountainous hill, not far from the Lahn. Its sights include the Braunfels Castle, the zoo and the historic market square. For me, Braunfels is one of the top 10 sights in Hesse 👍

After a fire in 1678, the market square was rebuilt. Today there is the tourist information, gastronomy and small shops with a wide range of different goods.

For me, Braunfels Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Germany. The castle was probably built in the 13th century by Count Heinrich I von Burgsolms. The castle was first mentioned in documents in 1246. Braunfels Castle has often been a backdrop for feature films. For me, the most beautiful film that was shot at the castle was the film “King Thrushbeard,” which was made in 2008.

You just have to go to the castle. The scenery, the historic houses and squares around it and this typical castle silhouette make a trip to Braunfels an experience. Of course, the castle is always an eye-catcher in any weather and in any season.
