After a fire in 1678, the market square was rebuilt. Today there is the tourist information, gastronomy and small shops with a wide range of different goods.

For me, Braunfels Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Germany. The castle was probably built in the 13th century by Count Heinrich I von Burgsolms. The castle was first mentioned in documents in 1246. Braunfels Castle has often been a backdrop for feature films. For me, the most beautiful film that was shot at the castle was the film “King Thrushbeard,” which was made in 2008.

The market square is surrounded by many pretty half-timbered houses. There are numerous restaurants, cafés and shops to linger in. The gate leads through the castle wall into the castle complex. Here there are more pretty half-timbered houses and a fountain.
