Lake Berzdorf near Görlitz is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The north beach is one of the quietest sections of the lake. Here you can swim and relax, while the beach is monitored by the observation tower and lifeguards from the German Red Cross (DRK). Perched atop the mighty rocky massif of Mount Oybin, the ruins of an old castle and monastery stand enthroned. Quiet chants can be heard in the former church, as if the monks were still there.

Once an open-cast mining pit, Lake Olbersdorf is now a local recreation area. Located at the foot of the Zittau Mountains, this bathing lake with a sandy beach stretches between Olbersdorf and Zittau. Once a year, at the beginning of August, the O-See Challenge takes place here, attracting hundreds of triathletes and thousands of spectators.

Lake Berzdorf is located on the southern border of Görlitz in Upper Lusatia. It was created from a former open-cast lignite mine that was flooded between 2002 and 2013. With an area of 960 hectares, a maximum depth of 72 meters and a volume of around 330 million cubic meters, it is one of the largest lakes in Saxony. You will find some wonderful bathing spots on the lake. So don't forget your bathing suit.

In 1923 the contact wire reached the Neisse viaduct and thus also the Görlitz train station. Electric operation began on September 1, 1923 and the first express train hauled by an electric locomotive (D 192 Breslau–Hirschberg–Görlitz–Berlin) crossed the viaduct. Before the war, over thirty pairs of passenger trains crossed the viaduct every day.
