In 1828, the former Saxon royal court official Johann Friedrich Neu from Görlitz bought the Zimpel manor for 4,000 thalers. By building the Zimpeler Allee in the Doubaner Forest, he ensured that the residents could more easily bring their goods to Bautzen to sell. The education of the rural population was also very important to him, which is why he set up a foundation for the Wartha school. "Let the children come to me" - this sentence from Jesus was written in Sorbian above the school door from the very beginning. From 1935 onwards, the National Socialists banned the Sorbian language in schools. The Bible quotation above the door was also no longer tolerated. However, the person in charge of removing it went to great lengths to ensure that the Sorbs could still make out its inscription today.
