The exhibitions and interactive spaces tell of everyday life in Scandinavia's largest trading city. Throughout the Middle Ages, Ribe was one of Denmark's most important trading cities, with a major port and connections throughout Europe. The exhibition describes how people lived in medieval Catholic Ribe—from birth to death.

The main road, Neder-, Mellem-, and Overdammen, was built as a dam over Ribe Å, dividing it into three narrow, rushing streams. The gradient is steep, so the water power was used to power the king's mills and later the citizens' mills. Today, only one water wheel is still turning.

It is the tallest building on the island and can be seen from far away. It has become the landmark of Mandø.

Ribe Cathedral can be seen from many directions. Today it is Denmark's only five-aisled church and has many extensions in different styles and building materials.
