The facility was completed in 1985 after approximately nine years of construction. At a cost of approximately 10 million DM, it was one of the largest inner-city recreational areas in Germany created outside of a garden show. It was named after former Karlsruhe mayor Günther Klotz. https://ka.stadtwiki.net/G%C3%BCnther-Klotz-Anlage https://ka.stadtwiki.net/G%C3%BCnther_Klotz

The access is more suitable for hikers, but it's short and therefore also suitable for a bike ride. Great views of the pretty town and the mountains beyond.

Nice view of the small hill, also ironically called “Mount Klotz” in flat Karlsruhe 😉

The view is worth it, even though you don't expect it.

In a document from Emperor Heinrich IV from 1102, a castle belonging to the nobleman Werinhardus in Michelberg is mentioned, which was apparently built around 1050 without imperial permission and from which Werinhardus had illegally appropriated the lands of the Rotenfels estate of the Speyer monastery, so that Emperor Heinrich III had it . forced to give it back and to raze Michelberg Castle. Since his sons Werinhardus, Eberhardus and Cuno both rebuilt the castle and took possession of the Rotenfels estate again, they were expelled from the castle and its possessions by Emperor Henry IV in 1102 and their property was transferred to the diocese of Speyer. This subsequently awarded the Michelbach possessions as a fief to the later Counts of Eberstein. The castle was mentioned several times in documents as Rosenstein (the rose was the symbol of the Ebersteiners) until 1503. With documentation dating back to around 1050, the castle would be the oldest documented castle in southern Germany. Source and further information: https://www.alleburgen.de/bd.php?id=39189
