When Denmark was defeated by Prussia in 1864, Denmark lost a third of its territory. Southern Jutland became German, and the new border ran south around Kolding, along the Kongeåen River, and south around Ribe. The Border Trail follows this border from the Wadden Sea to the Kongeåen River. The trail is divided into three stages: from Vester Vedsted to Høm, from Høm to Obbekær, and from Obbekær to the Kongeåen River. The route stretches along paved roads with wide ditches, field paths, and forest trails. You can take a circular walk at several locations, and there are shelters for overnight stays. Langeskov is a forested area where National Cycle Route 6 winds through a beautiful, tree-lined tunnel of greenery. As you ride east, the path opens up to reveal a small lake and a quiet bench on your left – a perfect spot to pause and take in the peaceful surroundings.

Malt Church, is a beautiful Romanesque stone church dating from the late 1100s. It features a rare granite baptismal font with carvings of the battle between good and evil, and stained glass by Sven Havsteen-Mikkelsen. The peaceful churchyard is surrounded by old stone walls and large trees, with a rich local history including a tower collapse in 1878.
