The Brecht House in Svendborg was the home of the writer Bertolt Brecht, who lived here from 1933 to 1939 as a refugee from the German Nazi regime. Some of his most important plays, "Mother Courage and Her Children" and "Life of Galileo", were written in Danish exile. Troense harbor on the island of Taasinge is located in beautiful nature in the cozy shipping town of Troense, which is known for its pretty old half-timbered houses. From the harbor you can follow the traffic into Svendborgsund, e.g. you can watch the sound cruise M/S Helge - a comfortable transport option to go out to Svendborg or Valdemar's Castle. On the weekends from mid-November to early December there is a beautiful Christmas market (Julemarked) in Egeskov Castle Park. However, there is an entrance fee to the Christmas market and the castle is closed during this time. The Christmas market is located on the castle park grounds as well as in the museums located there.
