We enter the forest again, the Zschopau River accompanies us for a moment, and then we climb step by step. Continuing along the path, we look again over the village of Scharfenstein and across to the castle. The sky has darkened again, the clouds are gray, and the sun gleams through. The ground is damp from the rain, and we walk through the beautiful landscape, now climbing steeply up the alpine path toward Weber-Hans-Felsen. From here, we look across the valley to the castle, towering above the town. The Zschopau River roars loudly. The path leads us through a beautiful clearing before we plunge back into the forest. The rock massif between Wolkenstein and Floßplatz, the "Wolkenstein Switzerland", is a great place for hiking with small scrambles and wonderful views, but there are also many opportunities for climbing here 🙃.

Wolkenstein Castle is a high medieval castle that was first mentioned in documents in the 13th century. The town and castle stand on gneiss rocks 80 meters above the Zschopau valley. Wolkenstein owes its existence to the "Berggeschrei" (the cries of the mountain), that is, the discovery of the ore deposits. The settlement and ore mining is older than that of Annaberg-Buchholz.
