Schwerte, first mentioned in 962 and granted city status in 1397, is a historically significant Hanseatic city on the Ruhr River in the Unna district. Known as "Pannekauken-Schwaierte" (after the hardship of the Thirty Years' War), it developed from a medieval agricultural town into a modern industrial center with a historic core, thanks to metal processing and its role as a railway hub (Deutsche Nickel AG). Gut Ostberge in Dortmund is a historic former knight's estate whose origins date back to the Middle Ages. In the 14th century, the estate was owned by the Sobbe zu Villigst family. Today, the estate is known as an equestrian center (run by the Gödde family) and offers modern facilities for horses and riders.

Parking for approximately 30 vehicles. A good starting point, as it's right on the edge of the forest. The Aplerbeck Forest has been a nature reserve since 2005.

The Gehrenbach stream, dammed by a small dam, is home to several duck families.

Here, one can wait out even the heaviest downpour on the bench.
