The Schwerter Forest is an extensive forest area and local recreation area between the Ruhr area cities of Schwerte and Dortmund. The forest area is located south of the Dortmund district of Aplerbeck on a ridge of the Ardey Mountains and north of the Schwerte exit on the A1 on both sides of the B236. The Schwerter Forest is particularly popular with walkers, hikers, walkers and mountain bikers. There are numerous nature experience locations, including the Gehrenbach reservoir and the Kreinberg settlement. A central point in the forest is the Freischütz restaurant, which dates back to a forester's house built in 1843 and quickly developed into a popular excursion destination1.
