For centuries, Callenberg Castle has been owned and used by the ducal family of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. For the ducal family, it remains a link between the past and the present. The castle is open from April to October: Thursday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; in November and December: Thursday to Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is €8.

Goldbergsee, a 145-hectare reservoir, was originally created as a flood control basin. Today, it is one of the most popular recreational areas in Coburg. The lake was created at the end of 2010. Since then, it has become a popular destination for day trips. The idyllic surroundings offer beautiful views of the majestic Callenberg Castle, which overlooks the lake, and the Glender Wiesen bird sanctuary.

The poet had the Friedrich Rückert summer house built on the Goldberg near Coburg in 1846. Friedrich Rückert spent much time in this idyllic refuge, writing political poems and working on translations of Arabic poetry.
