You have to earn the view, as it's more or less steep from every direction, but the sweat is worth it. Describing the many climbs would go beyond the scope of this article and depends on your preferences. My personal favorite is the one from Vorderburg, with its amazing switchbacks to Bitterlis and a viewing bench overlooking the Illertal valley.

A popular two-wheeled route in both directions, and when the changeable Allgäu weather is kind, it offers beautiful views of the hilly Illertal valley and the Zugspitze with the Eastern Allgäu and Austrian mountains. Car traffic is limited here, and on weekends, there might be plenty of motorcycles on the road.

The path here involves quite a bit of elevation gain, but it's worth it. From here, you can see the Upper Allgäu Mountains and the Austrian town of Jungholz, with the Lechtal Mountains in the background. After Oy, there's snow in the forest for a long time, making it impossible to ski.

Great kiosk with cool hosts. It's a shame there's a steep hill from Kempten to get there. I've been here several times. While I was having my Schupfnudeln (scrambled dumplings), the host asked me if I wanted them without bacon. Another good thing: they've largely rebuilt the kiosk. I've been during the week so far, and I imagine it's busy on weekends, even though this is a quiet corner of the Allgäu. The route around the lake is gorgeous.

Simply stunning, even if the path here is a bit strenuous. It's also pleasantly quiet for the Allgäu region. From here, you can see Rottachsee, the Illertal Valley with Kempten, the Allgäu mountains from Grünten, Jungholz in Austria, the Lechtal Alps behind, and the Alpspitze on the left. My favorite route is from Vorderburg, or, if it's been dry for a while, from Mittelberg through the forest. Since I changed the gear ratio on the derailleur, the uphill climb has been a real pleasure. The Gasthof Ellegghöhe serves delicious cake and has a terrace with a mountain view.

Winter: We did the hike at the end of December. The upper part was snowy, but still easy to walk (on the snow). The lower part was largely clear, as there was a road. You might therefore consider walking the upper part back again. You just have to walk back a bit to get to the rest stop.

The Rottachsee has now become a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts, including swimmers, sailors, surfers and divers, as well as anglers. There are spacious leisure facilities on both sides of the lake with various amenities such as sanitary facilities, changing rooms, a kiosk, a beach volleyball court and boat moorings.

From the parking lot at the community center, the walk through the forest is a little steep, but then you can enjoy the tour. The Alpine panorama is a relief for the soul
