We enjoy the "water trail," where the babbling and murmuring of the stream is a constant accompaniment. Every now and then, we cross over onto a bridge. We even find a small beaver den complete with gnawed trees. Highly recommended!

You have to earn the view, as it's more or less steep from every direction, but the sweat is worth it. Describing the many climbs would go beyond the scope of this article and depends on your preferences. My personal favorite is the one from Vorderburg, with its amazing switchbacks to Bitterlis and a viewing bench overlooking the Illertal valley.

A popular two-wheeled route in both directions, and when the changeable Allgäu weather is kind, it offers beautiful views of the hilly Illertal valley and the Zugspitze with the Eastern Allgäu and Austrian mountains. Car traffic is limited here, and on weekends, there might be plenty of motorcycles on the road.
