Beautiful area

Fredericia's ramparts have six openings connecting the city center with the surrounding area, but only three of them have actual gates: Danmarks Port, Prinsens Port, and Nørre Port. Prinsens Port is the oldest of the gates, dating back to 1753 in its current design. When the yellow, brick gate was built in 1753, it replaced an earlier wooden gate. The Nørreport Gate is one of Fredericia's city gates and was built in 1922. It was built as the city grew and the old fortress gates were no longer sufficient to handle the increasing traffic. Designed by O. Gundelach-Pedersen, the gate is characterized by its neoclassical architecture. It consists of massive columns separating the sidewalks from the roadway and a barrel-vaulted ceiling covering the entire gate. During construction, an older Udfaldsport gate from the 1860s was discovered, which once served as an escape route. Today, the Nørreport Gate is an important access point to the city and a historical monument that reflects Fredericia's development.

The Brave Landsoldier Monument is one of Fredericia's most recognizable landmarks. It was erected in 1858 to commemorate the Danish victory in the Battle of Fredericia on July 6, 1849. The statue, created by H.W. Bissen, is the first sculpture in the world dedicated to a private soldier. It depicts a Danish landsoldier with a rifle in one hand and a beech branch in the other—a symbol of victory. The statue is 3.75 meters tall and stands on a 2.5-meter-high granite pedestal, surrounded by captured mortars. The monument is located on Landsoldier Square near the Prince's Port, where the Danish troops entered the city after their victory. Today, it is a central meeting place for events and commemorations, especially during the annual Fortress Days, which commemorate the events of 1849.
