As early as 1858 there was a restaurant on the site. The current building was erected in 1865 Today the building houses Hotel Vamdrup and a café.

In 1861, the Danish parliament decided to build a railway between Fredericia and Flensburg. The construction was delayed in 1864 by the war, so that the line was only completed on November 1, 1866. By this time the border between Denmark and Germany had been moved a few kilometers south of Vamdrup, making it a Danish customs and border station, where both the Danish and German trains had terminal stations. So it was an important railway station with many officials, both railway staff and customs officials. And there were many tracks, some of which could be accommodated after reunification in 1920, when the Danish border station was moved to Pattburg. The sculpture was made in 1978 by Danish sculptor Elise Heidi Jørgensen (born 1924).

The current church building was built in 1824 in neoclassical style and replaced an old medieval stone church from around 1200. The architect was the royal court architect C.F. Hansen. The foundation stone was laid by King Frederik d.VI on June 5th. laid and was therefore called Frederikskirken in Vonsild. The consecration was December 5, 1824. The walls of the church were originally plastered with a reddish plaster, but after a renovation in 1995 the exterior of the church appears as you see it today when C.F. Hansen drew it. A square tower can be seen to the west, similar to the Church of Our Lady in Copenhagen. The tower rests on the west wall of the nave and forms the upper part of a pompous portal frame around the west entrance. The height of the tower has been somewhat debated. The current altitude is the original according to C.F. Hansen's drawings, but in 1880 the tower was found to be too low and it was raised, but the last restoration brought the tower back to its original height. Source: Wikipedia

Elise Heide Jørgensen, 1978, bronze. The sculpture depicts a boy coming walking with an injured dog in his arms. The traffic-injured dog draws attention to the figure's location on the corner of the old country road. The boy and the dog are made in a simple and stylized style.
