The park was originally laid out in 1753 by Adam Christoffer Holsten as a rococo garden. Between 2008 and 2010, the facility was redesigned based on the historical model. The garden is accessible during the day for a fee.

The history of Holstenshuus Castle goes back over 700 years, it was first mentioned in 1314 under the name Findstrupgaard. The first stately half-timbered building was erected in 1579 where the manor house is today. Through changing owners, the property came into the possession of the Holsten family in 1707, and it has been family-owned for over 300 years. The listed stone house was the city's poor hospital from 1728 to 1921. It came under the manor of Østrupgaard and was therefore administered by the noble lady Karen Brahe. Hence the building is known as Stenhuset (Stone House) or Karen Brahe's House. The poorhouse or hospital housed five to nine people. The cultural-historical regional museum is housed in the old school of Ringe, right next to the church. It is run by Midtfyns Museumsverein. The oldest part of the exhibition building dates back to 1704 and, together with the church, forms what is left of the old village centre.
