Houtstad IJlst - Museum on the Water: The Houtstad IJlst Museum and Workshop enjoys a unique location on the historic waterfront of Geeuw in IJlst. You can learn a great deal about IJlst's fascinating history, including its timber industry and, in particular, shipbuilding.

The most beautiful part of IJlst lies along the Eegracht and Galamagracht canals. Along these long canals, you'll find beautiful facades and stately houses from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The beautiful, authentic atmosphere that IJlst exudes is largely due to its many historic buildings.

The former town hall is truly beautiful! From the side, it initially looks like a church, but from the front, you can see the typically Dutch brick gable, richly decorated with lion heads.

The centuries-old sawmill 'De Rat' is located on the Frisian Geeuw River between the towns of IJlst and Sneek. This mill was built in 1683 but is still in operation today. 'De Rat' means "the rat" in English and specializes in sawing pine, larch, and elm.

The tower was officially opened on July 8, 1909. This municipal monument is 44 meters high and has a single water reservoir of 350 m³. Since 1998, the tower has been used as an office. Therefore, the interior of the water tower cannot be visited.
