It's one of the largest estates in South Holland: De Horsten Estate. It's actually a merger of the three estates Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, and Ter Horst. De Horsten was founded in the mid-19th century and came into the hands of the Royal Family at the beginning of the 20th century when Wilhelmina purchased the estate. The original houses no longer exist, but several (out)buildings remain, including the former hunting lodge. You can now enjoy a cup of coffee or tea there. Most of De Horsten Estate is now open to walkers.

The water tower is located in the Oostduinen near Scheveningen, near the Pompstationsweg. The tower has the status of a national monument. The water tower was designed in Eclectic style by architect Bert Brouwer and civil engineer Theodor Stang and was built in 1874 by the Haagse Duinwaterleidingbedrijf (now called Dunea). Due to its two reservoirs of 1000 and 1200 m³ respectively, this tower can store the most water of all water towers in South Holland. It was built because people started to extract water from the dunes and has a height of 48.74 metres. The tower was restored at the end of the 20th century. It is still in use and is listed as a monument. The design of the octagonal tower is an example of Eclecticism: the architect used motifs borrowed from Romanesque architecture and the Renaissance. The facades, made of brick and partly bluestone, with vertical niches and blocky round-arched friezes, include corner pilasters embossed in brick with sculpted Corinthian capitals. The tower is the first example in the Netherlands where the water reservoir was 'wrapped' with a brick wall. A copper dome roof rests on top of the tower.
