9월 1, 2024, Dinorwic Slate Quarry
At one time, Dinorwic Slate Quarry was one of the biggest quarries in Wales, employing more than 3,000 men at one stage. Slate transformed the tranquil mountain areas of North Wales, creating vibrant cultural communities, quarries, and rubble heaps. It was a vast, interconnected industrial landscape of mine workings and tram lines. It was open from the 1770’s until it closed in 1969. The slate industry has played an extensive part in Welsh culture, and 'The Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales' was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021. There are six areas in total, Dinorwic Quarry being one of them.

A quite helpful information board with a map of Llanberis - Snowdon's Village/Pentref yr Wyddfa: it shows where the main (tourist) attractions can be found, as well as the position of parkings, toilets, water activities to name but a few useful places.

7월 14, 2023, Dolbadarn Castle
Dolbadarn Castle controlled an important route into the heartland of medieval Gwynedd and was close to rich cattle pastures that provided food and income. Begun in the 1220s, the castle was built in ten years. The round tower consisted of two floors with comfortable accommodation over a basement and was a princely castle... The builder Llywelyn ab Lorwerth died in 1240, and despite his efforts to secure a peaceful succession in Gwynedd, a struggle began that did not find a clear winner until 1255. Llywelyn's grandson, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, defeated his brothers in battle and became Prince of Gwynedd. But they still posed a threat, and Llywelyn held Owain Goch, his eldest brother, prisoner in Dolbadarn. Here he was held captive for twenty-two long years. The 13th-century poet Hywel Foel ap Griffri described Owain as "a man in the tower, long a guest."

7월 13, 2023, Dinorwig Slate Mine Ruins
Slate mining at Dinorwig began in 1787 and ended in 1969. At its peak, the quarry employed over 3,000 men and produced 100,000 tonnes of slate products annually. Today, the quarry is all but abandoned, apart from a few climbers and divers and some very curious wild mountain goats. The only other activity at the quarry is the generation of electricity from the hydroelectric power station at the foot of the quarry. Many old, derelict buildings still bear witness to the earlier activities. Not beautiful in the classic sense, but very interesting and with a very special atmosphere!
