Once a tiny peasant village, Llanberis grew in the early 1800s, when the workers of the surrounding slate quarries moved in. Today the drowsy village is a popular destination among hikers and mountaineers as the several summits are in reach. There are two narrow gauge railways located in Llanberis. The Llanberis Lake Railway leads arround Llyn Padarn, as the famous Snowdon Mountain Railway brings you up to the highest summit of Wales.
