Lake Gaiano was once one with Lake Endine. Then, according to geologists, millennia ago the Borlezza Stream, continually excavating its bed, created a dividing rise to the east, at the level of the current Cava Cantamessa, creating the two lakes. The lake is small and particularly muddy to the east, with a large reed bed. From here, the Oneto Stream flows, flowing through the small plain before flowing into the Borlezza River at Pianico, its tributary. It is shallow and hosts several species of aquatic birds, depending on the season. A beautiful cycle/pedestrian path has been created on the southern side of the lake, along pre-existing paths, allowing visitors to safely enjoy the beauty of the area. Almost parallel to the lake, but further east and below the slopes of Monte Na, is the Valle del Freddo, separated from the lake by a small wooded ridge.

The section from Valle delle Fontane toward Sovere is a very challenging mountain bike trail through the woods, including a section of about 600m of gravel trail leading to the top of the climb, then rocky outcrops (some 30cm high, blade-like rocks that require great control of the bike as well as balance), which gradually narrows towards the top. For most less experienced mountain bikers, I think it would be advisable to proceed on foot, pushing the bike.

A small village, now with a handful of inhabitants, which before the Spanish Flu epidemic (1918/1920) had a population of over 150. According to annals and ancient maps, it was already mentioned around the 10th/11th century, including the small, gabled parish church dedicated to Saint Peter (Vatican Museum Maps). It was essentially Endine's first urban settlement, located at an altitude of 550 meters, to escape malaria in the then-marshy areas around the lake. It also served as a refuge for armies and marauders passing through the valley.
