In near-total silence, we stroll across the grounds, savoring the moment. The church shines in all its glory, bathed in the rays of the autumn sun. We enter the church; a service is in progress, and it's noticeable that Sorbian is still actively spoken here. We don't want to disturb them any further. We continue our walk through the grounds, reach the monastery café, and take a seat. After a while, we head back outside and are surprised by a flood warning sign. A few meters away, the Klosterwasser stream babbles along, almost like a brook, several meters below. We return to the church. Now, after the service, let's take another look inside. It's built in the Late Gothic style. The interior is beautiful, too, with a view of the altar and the interplay of red and white tones. The gallery is lined with statues. The old prison may be small, but it's truly worth seeing. The many explanations inside about the history of the High Middle Ages and the way the nobility treated their subjects at that time make us smile today, but back then they were probably a plague for the poor. The old prison was built in 1774 as Rammenau's second school. Around 1800, up to 200 children were enrolled. The name "old prison" originated in popular parlance because the Rammenau guard, who was responsible for enforcing village ordinances during his nightly patrols, occasionally locked up drunkards and lawbreakers here at night. Between 1920 and 1930, the people of Rammenau called the building "Dog Hole"! A skeleton has been placed on the stairs leading down to the prison as a decorative element.

The Fichtestube Inn, located in the former Erbgericht (court court) on Rammenau's village square, has become a gem both inside and out. Since reopening in 2000, it has taken on the feel of an Italian restaurant. There's an idyllic beer garden behind the building, the municipal office is integrated into the building, and, as was customary in the past, there's also a banquet room for up to 40 people and a hall for up to 120 people.

In 1763, the Rammenau farmers built their own cooperative blacksmith shop on the meadow. For approximately 150 years, blacksmithing was practiced there, then in a new extension until the mid-1960s. In 2010, the building, Rammenau's only half-timbered house, was reopened after extensive renovations. It houses the blacksmith shop, the tourist information office, a faithfully restored log cabin, and the community library. The barn attached to the blacksmith shop and the demonstration blacksmith shop are open from Easter to October, and many beautiful exhibits are on display.
