Until 2023, these trains also stopped irregularly at Sulzbach-Rosenberg Hütte station, which is located east of the city center near the former Maxhütte. The building, erected in 1826/27 over the baroque remains of the previous building from 1740, was considered one of the most beautiful synagogues in Bavaria. Since the 1920s, services could no longer be held in the synagogue because the required number of at least ten male parishioners (minyan) was no longer available. The National Socialist city leadership was looking for suitable rooms for the local history museum, which opened in 1907, and rented the “former Jewish synagogue” from 1934. After the Jewish community, which had existed since 1666, was dissolved on December 24, 1936, the city acquired the building for a settlement of 1,000 RM. The former synagogue was sold to a private person in 1950 and converted to residential use. In 2008, the city of Sulzbach-Rosenberg acquired the building. The aim of the subsequent renovation was to restore the historic interior, including the dome that characterizes the room. Since 2013, the renovated synagogue has served as a memorial and meeting place with a museum presentation of the history of Sulzbach's Jews. Opposite the synagogue are the former Jewish school and the former rabbi's house.
