The gatekeepers at the Nabburg Gate guarded the entrance to the city. The upper floors of the towers housed detention cells, comparable to today's sobering-up cells. Inmates were usually only there at night; during the day they had to help with the construction and maintenance of the fortifications.

Great value for money and a great beer garden, perfect for a rest.

The Ziegeltor is the northeastern city gate of Amberg.

The Basilica of St. Martin was built in 1421 and is the largest Gothic hall church in the Upper Palatinate. In addition to its size and the outstanding tower, which dominates the cityscape of Amberg with its height of 93 m, it is above all the numerous stained glass windows that make St. Martin a building worth seeing.

The oldest of Amberg's city gates is located in the eastern part of the old town. The lower, Gothic section was built in the 14th century, the upper one around 1587.

The Ziegeltor is one of four preserved gates in the city wall of Amberg and is located in the northeast of the old town, near the former brickworks. This is where the name of the gate comes from. Around 1581 the simple Gothic tower of the gate was raised. Today the Ziegeltor is owned by a youth organization.
