After the construction of the New Palace, the park, which had been in use since 1580, received an L-shaped ornamental canal with two islands as its new main axis. The smaller island, located in the axis of the longer leg, is now known as "Swan Island." The Greek sea nymph Thetis sits enthroned at its center.

The Tierpark am Röhrensee (Tube Lake Animal Park) This park in the south of Bayreuth is a draw for all generations. Enclosures and aviaries are embedded in the park's landscape amidst mature trees by the lake. Animals such as Bennett's wallabies, Temminck's tragopan, and flamingos live in species-appropriate, naturally designed enclosures and represent the earth's biological diversity. Visitors will find botanical features and colorful summer flowerbeds in the park, as well as authentic nature experiences. A large playground offers various climbing opportunities, a water playground, and play equipment for people of all ages. In summer, boat rentals provide additional variety.
