The Klingentor (Klingen Gate) is the northern entrance to the old town and, together with the fortified church of St. Wolfgang, built into the outer defensive ring, forms the Klingentor Bastion. The Klingenturm (Klingen Tower), 37 meters high, was formerly integrated into the city's water supply. It housed a balancing reservoir into which water was pumped from the Bronnen Mill. This water supplied some of Rothenburg's fountains.

Haltenmühle was first documented in 1238. During the War of the Palatine Succession, the mill, which was operated as a grain mill, was plundered and burned, but was probably quickly rebuilt, as suggested by the date 1689 on the wooden portals of the main building.

In November 1688, French arsonists led by the French general Ezéchiel de Mélac set fire to the mill and caused considerable damage.

Rothenburg is one of the most beautiful towns in Germany. I spent four days here and still haven't seen everything. Highly recommended!

Crossing the road here is very dangerous. There is no cycle path. Avoid this if you are a cyclist or have children!

It is almost impossible to resist the charm of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. So take one more walk into the old town and enjoy it to the fullest.
