The forerunners of St. Kilians Church date back to the 13th century. In the first half of the 15th century the wooden church (around 1241) was replaced by a Gothic stone church. The two lower floors of the tower with the fine vault ribs and the pointed arch windows have been preserved from it. In 1740 the Gothic church was demolished due to dilapidation and lack of space. The master builder Johann David Steingruber (1702-1787), who came from Wassertrüdingen and worked in the court building office of the Margraviate of Ansbach, was commissioned with the new building. The current St. Kilians Church was his first work. Since then, the church has undergone several renovations and repairs, as it is exposed to wind and weather due to its exposed location.

Geslau is located in the Frankenhöhe nature park about 10 km east of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
