The Schneid was first mentioned in an Austrian map in 1880 as Schneid Sp. The name derives from the grassy ridge extending westward. Such a "Schneid" is used in Bavarian for sharp ridges. Thaddäus Steiner therefore assumes that the use of the Schneid originates from its westernmost extension, since Egg was otherwise used in the Allgäu region. The Black Route provides a quick way to reach the Schneidspitze (2009 m) from the Hochjoch (1754 m). The trail is graded T4 throughout, very steep, and has a lot of gravel/scree in the upper section. Especially in wet conditions, slippery terrain is extremely dangerous. I definitely recommend using walking sticks on this section when ascending or descending!

Beautiful autumn tour with a stop at the Schneetalalm

You can climb to the 2009 m high Schneidspitze from the Lechtal in an easy mountain tour from Höfen. Above all, the summit offers a great view of the neighboring Gehren peaks.
