The Prinz Luitpold Haus is one of the oldest DAV huts in the Allgäu Alps and is located at an altitude of 1,846 meters. From the beginning of June to the beginning of October, the friendly host family will spoil you with refreshing drinks and tasty food. They taste best on one of the two sun terraces, from which you have great views. You can also spend the night at the hut. There are 160 beds available. The translation is slightly misleading. It is definitely possible for experienced hikers with climbing experience, but inexperienced hikers should avoid it.

As a lowlander, I wasn't sure that the last stretch from the Kaufbeurer Haus up to the Bretterspitze would be feasible for an inexperienced person like me. But I was lucky, because in the two weeks before, the DAV had cleared and marked a clearly visible path, especially over the scree fields. The last stretch up to the top was characterized by small climbs, but I never had to overcome obstacles over 1.6-1.8 m high. So more than doable, even for a beginner. However, those who climb from Hinterhochbach should bring the strength for the 1500 meters in altitude!
