Adjoining the small vestibule in the tower basement is a wide hall that serves as the nave. The choir apse opens on an axis with the entrance, with a huge pointed arch, whose rich and colorful profiles lead to the wooden ceiling. The interior is closed by a trapezoidal, four-sided broken wooden ceiling.[7] Its wooden construction with trusses and suspended columns and the ceiling beams, along with the surrounding galleries, also made of wood, dominates the overall spatial impression.[8] The plastered interior walls are lightly whitewashed. The window frames with their blinds, the brick ribs, and the frames of the triumphal arch are made of exposed brick. The Zinnowitz church has a uniform 19th-century interior. The few pieces are displayed in the choir area. The simple altar mensa, with its brick structure, is adapted to the spatial concept. The wooden cross shows the crucified Christ and is decorated with the symbols of the evangelists on the arms of the cross. Source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirche_Zinnowitz

The neo-Gothic brick building with a recessed five-sided chancel and rectangular west tower was built in 1895. The towering tower with its recessed extensions is flanked by two stair turrets. The north and south sides of the tower are topped with triangular gables. The west portal serves as the main entrance, a large pointed-arch entrance portal with columns in the jamb, archivolts in the arch, and gabled architecture above. The circular blind bay with symmetrically arranged large and small oculi crowns the entrance at the tower front. The long sides of the nave are divided into equal sections with two-part pointed-arch windows by four stepped buttresses. The chancel is surrounded by buttresses, and the intermediate bays are provided with three two-part pointed-arch windows. The east gable of the nave, with its staggered pointed-arch blind bays, emphasizes the chancel apse. Rectangular extensions are located on either side of the chancel. With its regular brickwork, the Zinnowitz church is a 19th-century building adapted to the regional Brick Gothic tradition. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirche_Zinnowitz

With the development of Zinnowitz into a seaside resort from 1880 onwards, the growing parish needed its own church. The building site on a hill in the village was donated to the congregation by the Berlin State Secretary von Jacobi. To finance the project, a special building committee was founded, which endeavoured to collect donations. 66,000 marks were raised through donations and the provincial church, and the Prussian state contributed a charitable gift of 8,000 marks.[6] The building plans were drawn up by the architects Franck and Hoßfeld from Berlin. The master builder, Ramm, came from Zinnowitz. Construction began on April 19, 1894, and the foundation stone was laid on July 15, 1894. The church was completed after a year of construction on July 1, 1895, and was ceremoniously consecrated on July 16, 1895. Thanks to donations, two new bells were placed in the tower and the interior renovated in 1955. A comprehensive interior restoration took place from 1980 to 1983. After a period of fungus repair, the entire church roof and tower were re-covered with copper by 1990. Heating was installed in 1997. Today, the church building, but without the land, belongs to the Protestant Church. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirche_Zinnowitz

Present-day Zinnowitz was founded in 1750 by King Frederick II the Great near the settlement of Tzys (Zitz). As early as 1309, this ancient town was mentioned among the possessions of the Krummin Monastery as a gift from Duke Bogislaw IV.[1] Zitz was located south of present-day Zinnowitz, on the Alt-Sitz field, the present-day cemetery. In 1495 and 1496, a chapel dedicated to Mary, Queen of Heaven, is documented in Zitz.[2] It was located on the so-called Marienberg, a hill on the east side of the Zisberg. From this hill, one has a good overview of the Achterwasser and can easily see the country road to Koserow. The location of the chapel at that time clearly demonstrated its importance as a coastal station for the Bodden fishery.[3] The chapel is documented as a way station for the island of Usedom and especially as a place of pilgrimage in 1496. Here, too, 16th-century chroniclers recount a story about a custom of the surrounding rural population that is apparently connected to this chapel. According to this story, on Epiphany Day, farmers are said to have illuminated the Three Wise Men with candles and lights. This was only prohibited after the Reformation by the first Protestant Duke, Philip I.[4] After the dissolution of the Chapel of St. Mary, which belonged to Krummin Monastery, and the abolition of Catholic customs around 1560, it is no longer mentioned in the visitation conducted in 1581.[5] Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirche_Zinnowitz
