Demminは、ペーネ川、トルレンゼ川、トレベル川の合流点にある「三国川の地」と呼ばれる地域に位置しています。Demminは1283年にハンザ同盟に加盟し、約1607年まで加盟していました。川沿いの有利な立地は、この街をバルト海地域の交易拠点としました。 19世紀後半まで、小型の海船が定期的にDemminに寄港していました。港は拡張され、ペーネ川は浚渫されました。1900年頃には、穀物取引、製糖工場、その他の産業がここで栄えていました。

Demmin is an underrated small town. A detour is highly recommended for anyone travelling through Mecklenburg Switzerland. From the north, the town is practically the gateway to this region. During and after World War II, the town's citizens had to endure a lot of destruction. Despite this, enough substance and structure has been preserved and has been maintained in recent years to give an idea of how rich the town is in culture and history. The old warehouses at the port on the Peene River are examples of this and are a fantastic feature of the townscape. The same applies to the church and the medieval parcelling of the town centre.
